A founding member of the former National Theatre Chinese Dance Company, Mr Chong King Ching was actively involved as a dancer and choreographer in the company's annual performances "Dances of the Orient" from 1979 to 1998.  He also participated in the company's performance tour to Malaysia, Hong Kong and Germany.

 

Joined the ECA Branch (now known as Arts Education Branch), Ministry of Education in 1986 as a Specialist in Dance. Since then he had been tasked to take charge of the Singapore Youth Festival (SYF) Dance Central Judging and assume the role of producer for the SYF Opening Ceremony and the Premiere Night of the Performing Arts at the Kallang Theatre until 2003. Since 1987 he was invited to choreograph or coordinate mass display items put up by schools for SYF Opening Ceremony at the National Stadium and NDPs until 2005 when he retired from the service.

 

In 1993, he was given a training award to study dance at the Laban Centre for Movement and Dance in London.  In the following year, he was sent on a training scholarship to study dance notation and learn about dance education in York University and Waterloo University, Canada.

 

He was invited to be a member of the Dance Curriculum Advisory Committees for both Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts and LaSalle College of the Arts, and served as an external dance examiner for the two colleges for from 1996 to 2004. He was also a member of the National Arts Council Dance Advisory Committee from 1996 to 2004.

 

From 2000 to 2012, he attended most of the National Dance Competitions held in China and met with their judgers to learn their views and comments on the dance items. In the same period, he was invited to judge in Chinese dance competitions in Penang and Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

 

He has been the Artistic Advisor to the Singapore Chinese Dance Artistes' Association since 2000, and assumed the role of Artistic Director for the full length drama “Romance of the White Snake” produced by the association in 2010.

 

In 2012, he was invited to be the Dance Artistic Director for the 21th Century International Arts Festival held in Malaysia.
