The Singapore Chinese Dance Theatre (SCDT) will be putting up its fifth core dance production “HEARTiculation”.

The hour-long performance will feature original dance creations by Artistic Director Lim Moi Kim, Principal Choreographer Neo Jenny, invited Guest Choreographer from Hong Kong Wu Kam-Ming, Yong Yong Xin, and Hoi Ka Man from Macau.  Each dance piece with its own uniqueness, articulating an inner expression from each of the choreographer's heart.

The first half of the performance focused on revealing the inner world of typical characters in the palace, such as the emperor, concubine and eunuch.  The solo dance “Palace” choreographed and performed by Wu Kam-Ming, depicts how the eunuch yearn to live an ordinary life like any other people, yet it is just impossible.  He can only helplessly struggle to survive in the palace.  “When Cicada Cry” choreographed by Artistic Director Lim Moi Kim reflects the pain and despair of disfavored concubine as they face their tragic fate of death. “Emptiness” is choreographed by Principal Choreographer Neo Jenny and it exposes the unhappiness in the emperor heart as he treads carefully though the infighting in the palace in order to consolidate power for his throne.  The second half of the performance show the feelings and mentality of civilians.  “Silent Cry” choreographed by Yong Yong Xin and Hoi Ka Man, expresses the sadness and disappointment of a fruitless love.

Through expressing the inner worlds of these characters, “HEARTiculation” aims to let the audiences resonate with their own experiences, develop sympathy for the fate of the characters, and reflect on the blessings that they have, so that they can cherish what they have and live more positively.
