ARTS EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMME

outreach

outreach > arts educational programme

Singapore Chinese Dance Theatre's (SCDT) outreach programme play an important role in our mission of promoting and preserving Chinese Dance in Singapore. SCDT is proud to present a diverse and fun-filled selection of Chinese dance performances and workshops, specially designed for the masses. Educational and at the same time entertaining, each programme aims to cater to different audience range and enhance their artistic experience.

For the past few year, we have presented school assembly programs, conducted workshops, and developed numerous community collaborations. From 2015, schools may use its Tote Board Arts Grant to subsidise up to 50% of the fees payable for our Arts Educational Programme (AEP). The Tote Board Arts Grant is not applicable to pre-schools. NAC partners selected pre-school centres to receive funding to purchase Pre-School AEP.

There are misconceptions that “Chinese Dance” is all about Fans, Ribbons, and Handkerchiefs. In fact, “Chinese dance” is an umbrella term used to describe dance of Chinese origin. In general, Chinese dance can be classified into two major styles: Classical dance and Ethnic Folk dance.

Through short description, performance and interactive session, this programme allows the audiences to be exposed to a number of different styles and forms of Chinese Dance as well as developing their interest and understanding towards Chinese dance as part of Singapore’s arts and cultural heritage.

Stories come Alive brings famous folk tales to life by displaying the characters of these tales on stage, expressing themselves through dance movements. The performance comes with/ narration (either English or Chinese), allowing students to better make a connection with and understand the story plot.

The proposed story for 2017 is "The Nightingale", a fairy tale by Hans Christian Andersen. More stories will also come your way in the future.
